The '''back wall''' is an interactive portion of a [[world]] in ''The Blockheads''.

==Description==
Although nominally a two-dimensional world, there are three "layers" of depth in ''The Blockheads'': foreground, midground, back wall, and sky. The back wall area sits between the midground (where crafting surfaces exist) and the sky.

==Bedrock==
Bedrock is a special instance of a filled back wall. Always appearing as stone, bedrock occurs below the dirt and sand comprising the surface of the world where stone and ores begin.

==Adding and Removing==
The back wall space is filled when a block is in the foreground, a solid block is placed no more than ten blocks above another solid block, or bedrock is exposed; the type of back wall material will be determined by the type of block used.

With the exception of bedrock, if all overhead solid blocks above a filled back wall are removed, the back wall fill will disappear and be replaced with air.

As of [[Game updates/20141119|version 1.6]], back walls can be removed individually. Even bedrock back walls can be removed using a pickaxe. They can be restored by placing and then removing a solid block in the appropriate space; the type of back wall material will be determined by the type of block used.

==Use==
Back walls allow the placement of most crafting surfaces, decorations, utility items, and blocks without them having to be directly on or beside solid blocks.

Daylight is reduced by the presence of back walls. Rain and snow are also blocked, making a back wall an important part of a shelter.
